1_halfe life

Half-Life (stylized as HλLF-LIFE) is a science fiction video game developed by Valve Corporation, the company's debut product and the first in the Half-Life series. First released in 1998 by Sierra Studios for Windows PCs, the game was also released for the PlayStation 2;^[2] Mac OS X and Linux ports became available in January 2013.^[3] In Half-Life, players assume the role of Dr. Gordon Freeman, a theoretical physicist who must fight his way out of a secret underground research facility whose research and experiments into teleportation technology have gone disastrously wrong.

Valve, set up by former Microsoft employees, had difficulty finding a publisher for the game, with many believing that it was too ambitious a project. Sierra On-Line eventually signed the game after expressing interest in making a 3D action game. The game had its first major public appearance at the 1997 Electronic Entertainment Expo. Designed for Windows, the game's engine, GoldSrc, was a heavily modified version of id Software'sQuake game engine with code portions from the id Tech 2 engine.^[1][4]

On its release, the game received universal acclaim, with critics praising the seamlessly flowing narrative, presentation and realistic gameplay, and it won over fifty PC Game of the Year awards.^[5][6] Its gameplay influenced the design of first-person shooters for years after its release, and it is widely considered to be one of the greatest games of all time.^[7][8] IGN ranked Half-Life as the number one greatest first-person shooter of all time, stating that "When you look at the history of first-person shooters, it all breaks down pretty cleanly into pre-Half-Life and post-Half-Life eras."^[9] Half-Life had sold eight million copies by 16 November 2004,^[10] and 9.3 million copies by December 2008.^[11] By 14 July 2007, the Half-Life franchise as a whole had sold over 20 million units.^[12] Half-Life was followed by the 2004 sequel Half-Life 2, which also received universal critical acclaim.

2_Opposing Force

Opposing Force is a critically acclaimed expansion pack for Half-Life, developed by Gearbox Software and released by Valve Software on November 1, 1999. The expansion's single-player mode features the same setting as the original, with the twist that the player is cast not as Gordon Freeman, but as Corporal Adrian Shephard, a U.S. Marine. Shephard is sent into the Black Mesa Research Facility on an undisclosed mission, but things go wrong as he finds himself fighting for survival against government agents, Xen aliens and the mysterious Race X. A fan mod is currently in the worksthat will see the whole game remade in the Source engine currently titled Operation: Black Mesa.^[1] Also, an unofficial sequel is being developed by fans named Opposing Force 2

Opposing Force can be purchased on Steam for $4.99. Originally, users with access to the back catalog, via an original copy of Half-Life or a copy of Half-Life 2 Gold Edition, could download Opposing Force for free. This service has since been discontinued.

3_Day Of Defeat

L'action se situe durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale et met en scène les combats du front d'Europe occidentale opposant les Allemands aux Américains (ou occasionnellement aux Britanniques). Deux équipes: les Alliés et l'Axe, composées d'une dizaine de joueurs ou moins, se combattent pour la conquête de l'espace de jeu (la « carte » ou la « map » dans le jargon). Compte tenu du thème, le terme « nazi » n'est jamais employé et est « remplacé » par le terme « Axe ».

Cette conquête est matérialisée par des drapeaux implantés aux endroits stratégiques de la carte, qu'il faut s'approprier en y restant à un ou plusieurs joueurs d'une même équipe pendant quelques secondes. L'équipe gagnante est celle qui remporte tous les drapeaux, ou qui totalise le maximum de points à la fin du temps de jeu. Les points sont attribués au prorata du nombre de drapeaux tenus à la fin d'un tour (fraction du temps de jeu).

Les tours permettent également de lancer une nouvelle vague d'assaut composée de tous les joueurs tués au tour précédent. La vague part d'un point de départ prédéfini (« respawn point »).

Les joueurs peuvent choisir une classe de personnages, qui détermine leur armement. Le joueur n'a pas besoin d'acheter son équipement, mais le nombre de personnages d'une même classe est limité par un quota (sauf pour l'infanterie de base).

Ce jeu est la modification d'Half-Life la plus prisée sur Internet, après Counter-Strike. Par rapport à ce dernier, Day of Defeat limite les temps morts, pendant lesquels un joueur tué doit attendre la fin du jeu (système de réapparition par tour). Le but du jeu étant la conquête et la conservation des drapeaux, les qualités individuelles priment moins : un seul joueur ne peut faire la différence. Le jeu en équipe organisée est privilégié.

La communauté des bénévoles a notamment contribué au succès de ce jeu par un grand nombre de cartes.

Un championnat national est organisé^{[réf. nécessaire]}, le principe est simple. Avoir le plus de points possible à la fin du match. Celui-ci se déroule en quatre manches sur deux maps ou cartes différentes. Chaque équipe choisit alors Alliés ou Axe (Axis) puis alterne à la fin de chaque manche de 15 minutes.

En septembre 2005, Valve sort une nouvelle version pour Half-Life 2: Day of Defeat: Source.
